Zed Run, one of the original blockchain-based racing games, is adding a new rental system for its players. Officially called the borrowing system, owners can rent out their horses to players, with both parties sharing the profits from the race. This racehorse borrowing feature is important for a game like Zed Run. This update should help improve player engagement and activity.
The Zed Run borrowing system is very similar to what we saw with Riot Racers. Borrowers choose a racehorse from the rental list, enter it in races and then share the profits with the horse’s owner. No prerequisites are required to borrow. Simply log in your wallet, choose a horse from the rental list and share the profits with the owner. Borrow market and start racing!
Can I borrow a racehorse?
Zed Run offers a secure rental system. NFTs never leave the owner’s wallet. However, horse owners can only acquire loaner permits by wagering ZED chips. Each permit allows the holder to lease a horse. Owners who wish to lease multiple horses will need multiple permits. Permit holders can return permits they are not using and get their wagered tokens back.
The staking element is an interesting design decision, as it forces owners to make a larger commitment to the ecosystem and invest in ZED tokens as well as horses.
To borrow a horse, simply select the desired horse and click the Borrow Racehorse button. This requires signing two transactions, but neither costs a fee. Loan permits have a limited duration. Once the loan period is over, the horse returns to the market, or to the owner’s barn, depending on the owner’s settings. Players can only borrow one horse at a time, to prevent someone from hoarding all the horses. Rentals last four days and are currently split 50/50 by default. We hope a future update will allow owners to set their own percentages and rental periods.
When a borrower wins a prize in a paid race, their entry fee is refunded before the profits are split between the owner and the rider. This is a great way to provide an extra incentive to participate in paid races!
What is Zed Run?
Zed Run is a horse racing simulation game running on the Ethereum blockchain. Players own, breed and race horses for fun and potential profit. Races include paid and free variants, as well as regular tournaments. Races run 24 hours a day, and those who don’t own Zed horses can use the new borrowing system to get a loan horse. Players earn ZED tokens by winning races and spend them to enter paid races, breed horses and acquire loaner permits.
