It’s time to discover a new destination in the Decentraland metaverse. This time it’s Crystal City. This experience features a huge crystal tower, sculptures and community event spaces. Let’s find out more about this destination and its content.
How does Decentraland work?
Decentraland is a hub of awesome experiences and destinations, much like The Sandbox. However, Decentraland gives creators the freedom to build what they love and showcase their talents within the community. Whether it’s in the form of markets, stores, or live events, Decentraland is the place to be if you want to get involved in a large community.
Decentraland is a user-owned virtual world built on the Ethereum blockchain. This means that users can play, interact, and earn money through their experiences and creations. In Decentraland, you can also find plots in which you can build your own environments, marketplaces and applications.
To earn money in Decentraland, you can buy MANA tokens to bet, but you can also buy LAND tokens. These LAND tokens represent parcels of land on which you can build, invest and sell for more money. After all, LAND Chips are NFTs, so their value can increase over time.
Explore Crystal City in Decentraland
Crystal City is the newest destination in Decentraland, and it is now available and open to the public. The experience features a 548-foot crystal tower called the Crystal Tower. This tower is the main feature of the 16-acre experience.
The 16-acre experience is home to offices, art galleries, stores, events and the highest observation deck in the entire game. This makes it a unique destination with a lot of potential. The observation deck and the sheer size of this destination makes for an amazing location for businesses, retailers, artists, musicians and creatives to rent space in the tower, marketplace and event area.
In addition to designers, brands are also allowed to lease plots to develop brand new HQ structures. The launch party was held today, with music and many activities to celebrate this new experience.
What is Crystal City?
Crystal City is a brand new experience in Decentraland. It was designed by young architect Felipe Escudero of Estudio Felipe Escudero for LEDY, one of the most popular metaverse developers. Like LEDY, Decent Amusements manages the neighborhood, breaking the barriers between the metaverse and the physical world.
As we know, the name Crystal City is mainly dedicated to the big tower of the experience. This crystalline tower is a metallic work of art that dominates the whole experience. The observation deck joins the tower on the 16th floor, twirling around its shiny surface.
As mentioned, Crystal City is a huge 16-acre experience. Part of that 16 acres includes a large performance and event space. This is a public space that spans the side of two soccer fields. This space forms the main base of the experience, and in the middle of this space is GEM, a two-story sculpture created by Escudero. This sculpture becomes a kind of community art space or gallery, intended to showcase the artists’ work.
Features of Crystal City
Among other features, Crystal City also includes a public marketplace in the event space. The floor of this plaza offers a shimmering appearance of water, with sci-fi elements. Above this marketplace is an ice ceiling, making this experience even more appealing. Once the market is in use, it will expand upward and outward, giving designers a spectacular place to showcase their products.
The ice on the ceiling will eventually melt to accommodate the exponential growth of the market. Our physical world is represented here in a metaphorical way. Industrial development has a negative impact on the earth and its inhabitants. This experience will not impact the world and the people, presenting itself as a virtual reminder and a stark contrast.
Usually, plots cost thousands of dollars in Decentraland. In the Crystal City experience, affordability is key. Artists, designers and retailers will be allowed to rent space and host events at affordable prices, allowing them to showcase their work. In addition, tenants and developers are free to do whatever their imagination desires at an affordable price.
