Genopets is preparing for a new update to its move to earn game. This includes adjustments to the stage-to-energy conversion formulas that will provide boosts to higher level pets, and slow down the production of KI tokens and crystals.
In what seems to be a regular occurrence for web3 games that offer players a way to generate tokens, Genopets discovered that its player economy was not sustainable, and took steps to improve it. Since Genopets launched KI harvesting, players have been using their steps to easily convert their energy into KI tokens and genotype crystals. Even a relatively small walk with a level 1 animal generates enough energy for players to maximize their KI token and crystal production on a daily basis. And when you have that kind of unfettered resource generation, players eventually dump their goods on the market, driving down prices.
And so Genopets made some economic adjustments. Most of them involved the step-to-energy formula, but Genopets also planned to introduce a harvesting drop for guild habitats, which are not typical habitats and were sold directly to guilds. It turned out that guilds were mostly focused on generating new KI tokens, and not so much on repairing their habitats and engaging in the game economy. As a result, there will now be a decline in harvesting for Guild Habitats. Guildhouses that are not repaired daily will start to receive a reduction in harvesting efficiency – 25% reduction for every day that goes by without repair.
But this only affects those specific Houses. The part that affects everyone has to do with the process of converting the stage to energy.
Making steps less efficient
Genopets brings us an update to their step efficiency curve. Basically, the step efficiency curve causes steps to have a decreasing output throughout the day. It’s a complex formula, but in a nutshell, the more steps you take, the less energy you get from subsequent steps. This formula did not work as well as the team had hoped, so they made some changes to the formula.
A variable called Step Efficiency Rating was added to the formula. It is partially based on the level of the Genopet. The higher the level of the pet, the more efficient the energy conversion. The calculations are done in such a way that at lower levels, players are essentially limited to a maximum number of steps. This does not mean that they cannot take as many steps as they wish. However, at some point it will be nearly impossible to gain extra energy by taking more steps that day. For level 1 pets, this cap will be about 1,429 energy points, gained by taking 10,000 steps.
This step limit resets every day. But the goal is to encourage players to increase the level of their pets. It also gives a significant advantage to owning a Genopet Genesis since they start at level 22. With the huge reduction in energy production, we should also see a corresponding decrease in the amount of tokens and crystals produced daily, which will help support the economy. This will go into effect on Monday, October 3, at approximately 1:00 UTC.
Genopets plans to retroactively adjust players’ energy reserves based on the new formulas. So hoarding energy is not a good plan. Make sure you spend your energy before the 3rd!
What is Genopets?
Genopets is a free, move-for-money game based on the Solana blockchain. Using the Genopets app, players collect steps as they walk. They convert those steps into energy, and then into KI tokens. KI tokens are Genopets’ primary currency and are used to craft crystals, upgrade their Genopet, maintain habitats… pretty much every feature in the game.
Genopets offers a number of NFTs, as well as the new style of ‘SFTs’ for basic resources. The main NFTs are Genesis Genopets and Habitats. SFT resources include raw crystals, refined crystals, terraform seeds, and other upcoming additions such as pet augmentations.
Players can earn money by cashing in their KI tokens, making and selling crystals, or renting habitats. Habitats are the main gateway to winning in the game. Each habitat contains a genopet. Habitats are needed to convert energy into KI, and for all crafting. Players must maintain their Habitats or production stops.
Genopets include two tokens, GENE and KI. GENE is the governance token, while KI is the main currency of the game. The game is currently in beta, and they are sending out new invitation codes on a weekly basis. Follow Genopets on Twitter and Discord for more information.
