The date for the MetalCore Open World Alpha (OAW) has been announced. On October 13, all players with a MetalCore Genesis Infantry NFT will have access to the alpha, but there is also a waiting list that anyone can join.
While players have already had the opportunity to try out the MetalCore demo during recent appearances at PAX West and TwitchCon, most haven’t had the chance to try it out yet. That’s about to change with the first phase of MetalCore’s open world Alpha. Scheduled to launch on October 13, this first phase is open to anyone who owns a MetalCore Genesis Infantry NFT.
For those who don’t have an NFT, you can sign up for the Alpha phase. Waiting list via this form.
Players will not be using their own NFTs for this alpha. Instead, everyone will have a selection of infantry, mechs and vehicles to choose from.
We’ve seen some footage from their recent demos showing 5v5 combat, but the team has been very tight-lipped about their detailed plans for the alpha. But, since the ultimate goal is to have 50v50 matches when the game is released, we can expect to see larger scale contests in later phases of the alpha, if not right away.
The MetalCore team also clarified that the alpha will only be accessible during certain periods of testing, improving and updating the game. There will be two sets of servers to try to accommodate different time zones. One in North America and one in Asia. Additional servers will be opened as the game gets closer to release.
What is MetalCore?
MetalCore is a web-based game3 that is a cross between Planetside and Battlefield. It is a sci-fi themed first and third person FPS with many vehicles, infantry types and loadouts. The game features instanced and large-scale factional combat. Some battles will feature up to 100 players per side. It is not yet known whether these will be three- or two-player battles. MetalCore features vehicle and infantry combat, with a wide variety of combat styles and support options. Coordination with your teammates and faction will be important.
During faction battles, each side tries to take and control various tactical points around the map and attempts to destroy the enemy base. Tactical points offer in-game advantages to the faction that controls them. Each player has a limited number of respawns per battle. When they are exhausted, they can no longer play in that scenario, but other players can take their place.
There will also be a persistent open world, but it appears that this area is PvE only. Players earn FAB tokens by playing the game. This token will be used for crafting and upgrades. We don’t know if this will be a blockchain token or in-game only. Players craft vehicles in garages, and can upgrade and customize them with special skins and decals. MetalCore will also support baronies, or guilds.
MetalCore made its first sale of infantry NFTs in July 2022. No details are available on the timing or price of future sales.
MetalCore plans to include free-to-play options in their game upon release. They are also implementing a content creator program with rewards for streamers and video creators.
