Free, open world and play to earn, Mirandus is the flagship game of Gala Games. Among the five most anticipated play-to-earn video games in the GameFi landscape is Mirandus from Gala Games. Although the video game is still in development, it has already gathered a passionate community and its first NFTs have long since sold out. How does Mirandus, the quest-free fantasy role-playing game, work?
Gala Games and the GALA token: video games on blockchain
Mirandus is developed on Gala Games, a network for creating games on blockchain. The Gala Games platform presents itself as a marketplace where one can explore different video games and buy tools and game items in the form of NFTs. The Gala Games network works with GALA, the Ethereum-based utility token.
Most of the video games on Gala Games are in the development or testing phase. The platform not only hosts video games from the Gala Games team, but is also open to developers outside the project. Currently, the video games created directly by Gala Games are Mirandus, Town Star and Town Crush. For Gala Games, fun comes first, which means that the blockchain must be “invisible” within the play-to-earn. The complexity of this technology should not be an obstacle for those who want to play, which is why, although it is based on blockchain, the game mechanics are simple and accessible to everyone, even non-experts.
Players just need to know that thanks to the blockchain, everything they own in the game is also their property outside of the jey. Gala Games prides itself on a high level of community involvement and aims for total decentralization based on active user participation: “thanks to decentralization, players not only own their in-game items, but also have a say in the development of Gala Games’ roadmap, all through voting mechanisms.”
Mirandus: a fantastic and unpredictable Metaverse
Mirandus is a fantasy RPG and takes place in a world ruled by five monarchs, set in as many cities. The video game itself has no quests, missions or levels to overcome, players are free to venture out into the wild and try their luck in the Mirandus metaverse. You can participate in the game with your own avatar, opt to hunt forest monsters, lend your services to a few knights or run a small village store. In Mirandus, all possibilities are open. With all these features, Mirandus by Gala Games is an open world.
How does play-to-earn work in Mirandus?
The specificity of a play-to-earn video game like Mirandus is the possibility of obtaining crypto rewards while playing. Gala Games has designed a sophisticated internal economy for Mirandus, based on two tokens: GALA and Materium (MTRM), both ERC-20 tokens. While GALA is used to buy all the NFTs that “beautify” the game, Materium is the token that moves actions and characters in Mirandus. Everyone is looking for Materium, which technically is a token that can also be traded on the open market, but in the game is a powerful “mother” substance.
Materium is a concentrate of magic with amazing powers. MTRM can be used to enhance abilities, prepare spells, create artifacts, and teleport. On Mirandus, people are claiming territories and citadels in order to get their hands on the miraculous substance. To earn rewards on Mirandus, be prepared to find Materium in every corner of the metaverse! However, Mirandus is also a play-to-earn game as you receive tokens every time you complete mini-objectives such as founding cities or defeating monsters.
The NFTs of Mirandus
Mirandus is essentially a free-to-play cryptocurrency game, which means you don’t have to pay any fees or buy any components to start playing. Free avatars are available for all players, but it is possible to buy characters with enhanced powers as NFTs: Exemplars. There are 5 types of Exemplars: Elves, Halflings, Orcs, Dwarves and Humans, each category is divided into ‘families’ and each avatar is unique.
Orcs are the most adept at exploring the wilderness while Dwarves are the most eager for Materium. At the time of writing, 90% of the copies have been sold but can be purchased on secondary markets. To give you an idea of the average price, an Orc on Gala Games costs about 19 thousand GALA (about 1100 euros), on OpenSea you can find Humans for 0.06 ETH.
The basic mechanics of the game are based on the properties of resources, be it land, buildings or means of transportation. Mirandus NFTs also include land (in Mirandus, ownership is power), ships and docks. 1650 plots of land are available and from the start of the game, owners will be able to choose in which geographical area of Mirandus to place theirs. On the land, you can build houses or offer services.
It is also essential to equip yourself with suitable walls to protect yourself from enemies and monsters. Mirandus’ NFTs can be characters, land (Deeds), buildings, docks or ships. Each non-fungible token is distinguished by its characteristics, rarity and “value” in the game. For each purchase on the Gala Games marketplace, the network has committed to planting a tree through the One Tree Planted platform.
A release date for the video game has not yet been announced. The trailer for Mirandus, Gala Games’ giveaway game, features a mysterious traveler with worn clothes and a grimy face, all of whom seem to be a laborious undertaking in progress. On Mirandus, indeed, everything is to be built, and there is nothing more intriguing than the power to create. Unlike other MMORPGs such as Warcraft or Final Fantasy, players are not invited to explore cities or places imagined by the developers. In Mirandus, everything is in the hands of the players!
