Do you like soccer as much as you like cryptos? Good news, there is a way to combine these two passions. It’s called Sorare, a true crypto fantasy soccer game built on Ethereum! In this game, your goal is to create your own team, made up of NFT footballers, and compete in tournaments trying to beat your opponents. In this complete guide to Sorare’s NFT fantasy soccer crypto, we explain how to get started, how tournaments work and how to win the rarest cards. Let’s get started!
How to play Sorare
The first thing you need to do to start playing Sorare is to have an Ethereum wallet handy. MetaMask is the fastest way to do this. Once you’ve created your wallet, replenish it with ETH. Playing in the beginning is free, but to participate in the more difficult leagues, you’ll need to buy NFT cards from the Sorare marketplace. At this point, register with Sorare using your email address and phone number. Immediately after, you will be asked to choose your favorite teams from 44 leagues around the world. From the teams you choose, five players will be randomly selected. This will serve as your initial “office” roster, allowing you to learn the mechanics and start playing. You will then receive 5 common cards, which are not NFTs and cannot be exchanged with other players.
Now you are ready: connect your MetaMask wallet and follow Sorare’s tutorial. You will be faced with a trial round, and you will have to create the formation of your team. Sorare’s crypto fantasy soccer teams consist of 5 players: goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker and “joker” (who can be a player of any position). When you define your team, you must also choose the captain of your team. You can see the average score of each player directly on his card, which will help you decide on the composition of your team. Players earn points based on their performance in official matches; you can see the complete list here. The captain gets 20% more points, so pick your strongest player!
Feeling comfortable with the system now? Now it’s time to find out how to play Sorare! By clicking on “Play” you will see the leagues available and the ones you can participate in with your team. Many of them require you to meet certain conditions, such as having a minimum number of NFT cards. The more requirements you have, the more rewards the league has to offer! You can participate in as many tournaments as you want, but each card can only be part of one team at a time.
How the NFT cards work in Sorare
Your free “common” cards are very useful to start understanding how to play on Sorare, but they won’t get you far. Sooner or later you will have to buy players on the primary or secondary market. Let’s see how Sorare cards work!
Sorare cards are available on the platform in 5 different rarities. The common cards are not NFT, and only earn half the points of other cards. Then there are limited (maximum 1000 cards in circulation), rare (100 cards in circulation), super rare (10 cards in circulation) and unique (only one card in circulation) cards. These cards have a proven rarity on the blockchain, and have a higher or lower value depending on the player’s skills. Sorare’s NFT cards also earn experience points each time they are used: depending on the level, the number of points they earn at the end of the game increases. Common, limited and rare cards have a maximum level of 20 and can get a 10% bonus. Super rare and unique cards can reach level 60 and 100 respectively, accumulating bonuses of 30% and 50%!
How does trading on Sorare work?
There are three ways to get your hands on NFT cards. The first is to participate in the platform’s primary market through an auction. Every day, Sorare mints new NFT cards from randomly selected players. These cards are put up for auction, and all players can “bid” an amount in ETH to try to catch them.
You can also use the secondary market: if you have an NFT card, you can sell it directly on Sorare. To sell a card, you have to choose a price that you think is appropriate and wait. If no one buys it after 48 hours, the card goes back into your wallet. Be careful, though: trading cards in this way lowers the player’s level! Alternatively, Sorare cards can also be bought on Opensea.
The third way to get an NFT card from Sorare is to participate in leagues. There are several leagues with different characteristics, like the age of the players or the league they play in, but the main one is the All Stars League. Finishing on the podium of these competitions gives you a random NFT card from Sorare. On the other hand, if your team exceeds the score thresholds determined by the league, it offers you a prize in ETH. However, since there are many other players in the leagues, it is very difficult to win and reach the podium unless you have a strong and balanced team. So you need to have your NFTs in hand if you want to play competitively, to build a team that can compete with the other coaches!
Now that you know how Sorare’s crypto fantasy soccer works, you’re ready to scout for NFTs like a real coach. Create your dream team, participate in leagues and become the best coach on Sorare! And why not, you might even find yourself competing with soccer legends like Mbappé or Zidane!
