After months of speculation and years of subtle hints, Splinterlands has now revealed its long-awaited spin-off game. So fans of the franchise will soon be able to indulge in “Splinterlands Tower Defense (SPLTD)”.
The platform will draw inspiration from the traditional tower defense genrePlayers set up a strategy before unleashing waves of enemies. However, unlike the usual, once the action begins, players can no longer influence the outcome. Instead, they have to rely on an automatic game function and a lot of hope. Additionally, at the end of each level, players can choose to collect their winnings or continue and risk everything.
To help players, Splinterlands will introduce three types of NFTs for use in the game, in the form of towers, spells and heroes, each offering their own benefits. Existing Splinterlands cards and governance tokens will also be useful in the title.
SPLTD will launch as a single-player PvE game with level progression tied to the player’s account, meaning that regardless of social status, players must work hard to get ahead. To make things even more interesting, the Splinterlands team plans to redistribute $1 million in SPS rewards across the platform, in addition to regular NFT-based prizes.
The well-oiled Splinterlands machine plans to launch the closed beta of the game towards the end of the year, with the first NFTs scheduled for a month. Sept. 20comprising five rounds retailing at $8 per pack.
