Civitas has begun dropping new special NFTs on their character owners, providing the first phase of utility for these NFTs. This drop is just the first of many, and features NFTs called Ever Fragments. Combine the Fragments into Crystals for a chance to upgrade plots of land!
Civitas is set to launch its first official character mint this week. This currency will be for characters known as The Chosen. It begins with a Dutch auction on October 4. This will be the second set of Character Coins. The first, the Shaman, was offered at various events and awards.
But what role does a character play in a city building game? Well, for Civitas, the actual purpose, or utility, of their characters is to receive drops. More specifically, periodic drops of Ever Fragments.
Ever Fragments and crystals
What are Ever Fragments? Ever Fragments are NFTs that players combine to create Ever Crystals. When generated, each crystal has its own set of traits and attributes. These take effect when players use the Crystals to hit a patch of land, or set them up as a land booster during play. When used to hit land, the Crystals are burned and their traits and attributes are incorporated into the procedural land generator, affecting the final result.
The attributes of the land plots will in turn be fed into the Unreal Engine, so players will see their unique, procedurally generated plots in the game!
Players can still hit lands without Crystals, but those hit with the help of Ever Crystals have a greater chance of receiving a rarer plot with more and/or better resources.
These lands are used in the game and their stats and resources will affect gameplay. Players also have the option to upgrade their plot by placing a crystal on it. This will provide bonuses based on the attributes of the crystal, but the bonuses will not be as significant as when used in a land strike.
Ever Fragments and Ever Crystals exist as NFTs that can be traded on third-party markets. Fragments will only be created as airdrops for holders of elected characters.
What is Civitas?
Civitas is a cooperative, competitive, multiplayer city building game. Players gather in cities, construct buildings on their plots, harvest goods, engage in an augmented reality experience to find special resources, and work with other players to make their city the biggest and best!
Players gather resources, construct buildings, and craft items on their plots. They can also explore the world through an augmented reality app on their phone. The augmented reality feature opens up mini-games and the ability to find unique resources. The game will be free to play, but in order to participate in the governance and decisions of your city, you will need to own land.
Each city functions as a mini-ODA, called a sub-ODA in the Civitas whitepaper, and players vote on various governance options within their city. While there is no direct PvP in Civitas, there will be leaderboards and competitions for bragging rights. Each city has a tower that the city’s residents can visit. There they will find statistics and information about their city, as well as potential quests and other CAD-related activities.
Civitas features unique NFT PFPs that also function as 3D game avatars. It will also have its own token, called CITI. Civitas expects the first pitches to be hit before the end of 2022, with a potential opening of the alpha game in early 2023.
